Review Criteria

Understanding our rating system and what goes into every MK Curry Club review.

Our Approach

Since 2001, the MK Curry Club has been providing honest, detailed reviews of curry houses across Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. Our reviews are based on real dining experiences by club members who are passionate about quality Indian cuisine. We visit restaurants as regular customers, paying for our meals, to ensure our assessments remain unbiased and authentic.

Our views have become a benchmark used by local curry restaurateurs to gauge their performance and identify areas for improvement. We take this responsibility seriously and strive to provide fair, constructive feedback that benefits both diners and restaurant owners.

The Star Rating System

Our star ratings reflect the overall dining experience, considering food quality, service, atmosphere, value for money, and consistency. Here's what each rating means:

5 Stars - Exceptional

Outstanding in every aspect. Exceptional food quality, exemplary service, great atmosphere, and excellent value. These restaurants consistently deliver memorable dining experiences that exceed expectations. May be eligible for our prestigious 5★ Certificate.

4 Stars - Excellent

Very good overall with high-quality food and reliable service. Minor areas for improvement but consistently delivers a satisfying experience. Highly recommended and worth a visit.

3 Stars - Good

Solid, dependable option with good food and acceptable service. Meets expectations without standing out. A safe choice for a curry night with room for improvement in some areas.

2 Stars - Below Average

Falls short of expectations with noticeable issues in food quality, service, or atmosphere. While not terrible, significant improvements needed. Proceed with caution.

1 Star - Poor

Disappointing experience with serious problems in multiple areas. Food quality, service, or cleanliness issues that make it difficult to recommend. Major improvements required.

Types of Reviews

Club Reviews (Full Reviews)

Our comprehensive, formal reviews conducted by club members during organized visits. These include detailed assessments across all criteria, star ratings, Common Curry value analysis, and may qualify for 5★ Certificate awards. Club Reviews represent our official position and are the result of group consensus.

Quick Reviews (Ad-hoc Reviews)

Informal reviews submitted by members from individual visits outside of official club nights. These capture essential impressions—what was good, what could be better—without formal star ratings or detailed assessments. Quick Reviews provide valuable additional perspectives and help track restaurant performance over time.

Our Commitment to Transparency

We maintain complete independence in our reviews. We do not accept payment or compensation from restaurants, and we visit as regular paying customers. Our reviews reflect genuine dining experiences and honest opinions. While we aim to be fair and constructive, we don't shy away from highlighting issues when they arise.

All reviews are based on specific visits and represent our experience on that particular occasion. We recognize that restaurants can have off nights, which is why we value consistency and may revisit establishments over time.
